Categories
Categories create the browsable hierarchy your customers use to find products in the customizer. A well-structured category tree helps customers navigate directly to the garment they want without scrolling through your entire catalog.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
An active Konfiwear account with admin or owner access
A plan for your category hierarchy (recommended: 2–3 levels deep)
Optional: thumbnail images for your top-level categories (PNG, JPEG, or WebP)
⚠️ Important: Categories in the Assets module create the customizer's navigation tree. They are separate from the category text field on individual products, which is a flat tag used for filtering in the admin product list.
Setup Instructions
1. Navigate to Categories
Go to Assets → Categories from the sidebar, then click the Categories tab. The page opens with either a list view (expandable tree) or a grid view (drill-down cards).

2. Create your root categories
Click Add Category. Fill in the details:
Field | Description | Required |
Name | Display label (e.g., "Football", "Basketball", "Running") | Yes |
Parent | Leave empty for a root category | No |
Image | Upload a thumbnail (PNG, JPEG, WebP). Displayed in the grid view and customizer. | No |
Enabled | Whether the category is visible in the customizer | Yes |
Click Save. Repeat for each root category.
3. Add child categories
For each root category, add children to build the second level:
From the list view — Click the + icon on a root row, or select Add Child from the dropdown menu
From the grid view — Click Add Child on the card footer
The dialog opens with the parent pre-selected. Enter the name, optional image, and save.

4. Reorder categories
Use Move Up and Move Down from each row or card's action menu to arrange siblings in the display order you want. Reordering only affects siblings at the same level.
💡 Tip: Place your most popular categories first. If Football accounts for 60% of your orders, put it above Basketball and Running.
5. Upload category images
Images are optional but recommended for root categories. They appear in the grid view and give customers a visual anchor when browsing.
Create or edit a category
Use the image upload area in the dialog
Select a square or 4:3 ratio image
The image uploads to cloud storage and is saved to the category
Verify It Works
Confirm your categories appear in the correct hierarchy on the Categories page
Open the customizer at
/c/your-slugand verify the category navigation displays correctlyClick through the tree to ensure all levels are visible and drill-down works
✅ Done! Your category tree is set up. Customers navigating your customizer will see this hierarchy when browsing products.
Managing Categories
Action | How | Notes |
Edit | Click a row (list) or card (grid) | Change name, parent, image, enabled status |
Hide | Click the Eye icon | Hides the category and all children. Re-show to restore. |
Delete | Select Delete from the dropdown | Cascades to all children. Permanent — cannot be undone. |
Move | Move Up / Move Down in the dropdown | Reorders among siblings at the same level |
⚠️ Important: Hiding a parent category automatically hides all its descendants. Showing a parent restores the entire branch. Use this for seasonal collections or categories under development.
Recommended Hierarchy Structure
Why two to three levels? Deeper trees add clicks without adding clarity. Most customers know the sport and garment type — two levels gets them there. A third level is useful only if you have many variations within a garment type.
Troubleshooting
Categories don't appear in the customizer Check that the categories are enabled and that your customizer is active for the account. Also verify that products are assigned to these categories.
Child categories aren't visible Expand the parent in the list view, or click into the parent in the grid view. Also check that the parent's enabled status is on — disabled parents hide all children.
Images don't display Verify the upload completed in the edit dialog. Supported formats are PNG, JPEG, and WebP. The image must be publicly accessible.
